AUSPICY, auspicium, a kind of augury amongst the ancients, which consisted in considering the flight and feeding of birds, in order to know whether any undertaking they were about, would prove happy or unfortunate. See AUSPICES and AUGURY.
Pliny attributes the invention hereof to Tiresias the Theban.
