ARCHIPERACITA, or ARCHIPHERACITA, an officer in the Jewish academies. See ACADEMY.

The Archiperacita was not the same with the Archisynagogus, as Grotius and others have mistakenly imagined, but rather the chief or principal of those appointed toread, explain, and profess the Law, in their schools—And hence the name; which is formed of the Greek ἀρχή,chief; and the Hebrew or Chaldee פרק, perak, division, chapter.
