APOSTOLORUM Unguentum, the Apostles Ointment, in Pharmacy, is a kind of detergent, or cleansing Unguent, composed of twelve Drugs; the Number of the Apostles, whence its Name. See OINTMENT. It was invented by Avicenna, and is otherwise called Unguentum Venetum. The principal Ingredients are Turpentine, Resin, Wax, Gum Ammoniac, Birthwort Roots, Olibanum, Bdellium, Myrrh, and Galbanum, Opopanax, Verdigris, Litharge, Oil of Olives, and Vinegar.
