ÆS USTUM, called also Crocus Veneris, a Chemical Preparation, made of Copper cut into thin Plates, put into a Crucible with Sulphur and Salt, stratum super stratum, and thus set in a hot Charcoal Fire, till the Sulphur be consumed. See CROCUS, COPPER, VENUS, etc. It is very detersive; and is used for eating off dead Flesh.Those who make this use of it, are to heat it red hot in the Fire nine times; and quench it as often in Linseed Oil.
