ARRIERE-FEE, or Fee, is a fee dependent on some other superior one. See FEE. These commenced at the time when the counts and dukes, rendering their governments hereditary in their families, distributed to their officers certain parts of the royal domains which they found in their provinces; and even permitted those officers to gratify the soldiers under them, with parts thereof.
