APOBATERION, among the Ancients, signified a farewell Speech, or Poem; occasioned by a Person's departure out of his own Country, or some other place where he had been kindly received and entertained. Such is that of Aeneas to Helenus and Andromache, En. Lib. III. The Apobaterion stands opposed to the Epibaterion. See EPIBATERION.
