APERIENTS, or Aperitive Medicines, are such as open the obstructed Passages of the small Vessels, Glands, and Pores; and by that means promote a due Circulation of the contained Juices. See OBSTRUCTION, CAPILLARY, GLAND, CIRCULATION, etc. Aperients, then, coincide with Deobstruents. See DEOBSTRUENT. The five lesser aperient, or opening Seeds, are Grass, Madder, Eryngo, Capers, and Cammock. The greater opening Seeds are Smallage, Fennel, Asparagus, Parsley, and Butcher’s Broom.
