ANKYLOSIS, a Disease in the Joints of a human Body; where the nervous Liquor that should lubricate the Bones, and make their Motions more easy, growing too thick, clogs up, and as it were, cement the Bones within one another. See BONE, ARTICULATION, etc. The Word is derived from the Greek ἀγκύλωσις, which comes from ἀγκύλος, a Hardness, or Callus in a Joint.
