ALARM, a Signal given by Shouts, or by Instruments of War, for the Soldiers to take to their Arms, at the unexpected Arrival of an Enemy. The Word is formed from the French à l'arme, to your Arms. Alarm-Post, is the Ground appointed to each Regiment, by the Quarter-Master-General, for them to march to, in case of an Alarm. In a Garrison, the Alarm-Post is the Place where every Regiment is order’d to draw up, on all Occasions. See POST.
