ADIAPHORISTS, ADIAPHORISTÆ, ADIAPHORITES, a name given in the 16th century to the moderate Lutherans who adhered to the sentiments of Melanchthon, and later to those who subscribed to the Interim of Charles V. See LUTHERAN.

The same name might also be applied to those now called Indifferentists. See INDIFFERENTIST.

The word is originally Greek, ἀδιάφορος (adiaphoros), meaning indifferent.
