ACANACEOUS, among Botanists, a Term applied to a Class of Plants, popularly known under the Name of the Thistle Kind. See THISTLE, and CARDOON.
The Word is form'd of the Greek ἀκανίζω, Jaw, I sharpen; in regard of the Prickles they are beset withal.
