ARCTURUS, in Astronomy, a star of the constellation Arctophylax, or Boötes. See BOÖTES.
The word is formed of ἄρκτος, bear, and οὐρά, tail, i.e., bear's tail; as being very near it. It rises on the first day of September, and sets on the 13thday of May; and has been supposed rarely to appear without bringing some storm. See STAR.
