ÆGILOPS, a Tumor, or rather Ulcer, in the great Canthus or Angle of the Eye, by the Root of the Nose; either with or without an Inflammation. See EYE, TUMOR, and ULCER.

The Word, in its original Greek, aigylops, signifies a Goat's Eye; in regard, Goats are supposed extremely liable to this Disorder. If the Agilops be neglected, it bursts, and degenerates into a Fistula, which eats into the Bone. See FISTULA.

Authors frequently use Aigylops, Auchylops, and Fistula Lachrymalis promiscuously: But the more accurate, after Aegineta, make a difference.—The Tumor, ere it becomes ulcerous, is properly called Auchylops; and after it has rendered the Os Lachrymale carious, Fistula Lachrymalis. See AUCHYLOPS, etc.

If the Agilops be accompanied with an Inflammation; it takes its Rise from the Abundance of Blood, which the too great Plenitude discharges upon the Corner of the Eye.—If it be without an Inflammation, it is supposed to proceed from a viscous pituitous Humour, thrown upon this Part.
