ARCHIMIME, Archimimus, is the same thing, ineffect, with arch-buffoon.

The archimimes, among the Romans, were persons whoimitated the manners, gestures, and speech both of theliving and the dead. See MIME. At first they were only employed on the theatre; but wereafterwards admitted to their feasts, and at last to their funerals; where they walked after the corps, counterfeitingthe gestures and behavior of the person who was carrying to the funeral pile, as if he were still alive.
